With multiple gaming showcases around the corner, rumblings about upcoming games have begun to show up. On the Xbox side, games like Gears 6 and Perfect Dark are expected, but id Software may also have a new Doom entry to reveal.

According to recent teasers, the studio’s next project is related to this franchise. While rumors already created quite a buzz among Doom fans, it seems a recent Bethesda patent has provided further evidence for a new reveal.

Why it matters: Following the release of Halo Infinite, Xbox has been lacking in the first-person shooter department. id Software’s next release could, therefore, fill in this gap.

Bethesda Filed A New Patent At The Beginning of 2024

As seen above, a patent named IDKFA was filed by Bethesda earlier this year. While this did not receive too much attention at the time, recent reports from various insiders make the patent more significant.

For the unaware, IDKFA was a cheat code used for the classic Doom games. While this patent refers to a mystery project, there is little doubt that it has a relation to id Software’s franchise.

Since the studio has been working on a new project for the better part of the last four years, a new Doom entry seems like the most logical explanation. Another game titled Doom Year Zero was also spotted in last year’s Xbox leaks.

With all the stars beginning to line up, it seems id Software fans are in for a treat next month.

Doom Eternal was already considered a remarkable high for this franchise, so there is excitement to see where id Software can go next. Following the fast-paced nature of the last game, there has been demand for a slower, more deliberate pace to the next entry.

Latest Updates
Many fans crave a Doom game that delves into the horror elements of prior entries. Whatever the future of this series may be, id Software’s recent work inspires confidence, so fans have little to worry about.
