[Discussion] Capcom Has Seen A Massive YoY Decline In Net and Sales Income

Makes sense. Capcom had an incredible 2023, so 2024 has been slower. I expect RE9 to boost sales drastically next year.

I read somewhere that Capcom’s sales dip is largely due to fewer major releases, and it makes sense. Gamers expect big, well-polished titles, and Capcom has typically spaced out their big releases for maximum impact. However, with fewer new games on the calendar this year, they seem to have missed out. It’s interesting that even with smaller releases and updates, the numbers are down this significantly. Maybe Capcom needs to think about releasing mid-sized games in between the big ones or even experimenting with a subscription model for legacy content. The demand for high-quality games is there—they just need to match it.

It’s kind of surprising to see Capcom report a loss when they’ve had consistent hits recently. Makes you wonder if they’re relying too heavily on their big franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Maybe it’s time to diversify?

I think Capcom’s decline in sales this year highlights a growing problem for the company. Relying heavily on remakes and sequels works for a while, but eventually, gamers crave something fresh. While Resident Evil and Monster Hunter have solid fanbases, there’s a big risk in sticking to the same franchises.

Other companies like FromSoftware have shown that fresh ideas (like Elden Ring) can bring massive success. Capcom could benefit from taking a few creative risks. Maybe a new genre or a unique storyline would be a smart move, rather than waiting for nostalgia to drive all the sales.
