The series' latest entry, Mortal Kombat 1, quickly became yet another hit, and NetherRealm Studios is currently focused on supporting this entry. Meanwhile, fan demand for remasters of classic Mortal Kombat games is constantly on the rise. Acknowledging this demand, Ed Boon states that remasters of the older titles will eventually arrive.

yeah, modern MK stories are pretty terrible. Although, NRS making remasters would not be the same thing as Sony. MK9, UMK3, and what not are genuinely old and lack new features like rollback netcode. Those remasters would have an actual purpose.
