The digital artbook of Silent Hill 2 remake reveals that the Bloober Team made the characters ugly in-game on purporse. The developer seems to have made Angela and Maria look ugly for the modern audience. The character design of Maria and Angela in the digital art book looks so much better and really defines the characters.

Honestly, I don't get why Bloober Team felt the need to make Maria and Angela look so different from their original designs. The digital art book shows what could have been! I get wanting to update the look for modern audiences, but this feels like a miss.

I don't mind when games make some design changes, but this one feels off. Maria and Angela had such iconic looks in the original, and making them look 'ugly' for a modern audience just doesn't make sense to me. The digital art book clearly nailed it!

I think they went too far with the character changes, especially Maria. The artbook version looks perfect for Silent Hill's vibe, and it's confusing why they didn't stick with that. It feels like these changes are unnecessary and don't add to the game.

I saw the comparisons, and the artbook versions of Angela and Maria definitely look better. It's a shame because Silent Hill 2 is such a beloved game. I think fans would have preferred more faithful designs instead of changing them up so much.
