Microsoft Halting HoloLens for Consumers but Focusing on Military?

Hello!

So, I just read that Microsoft is discontinuing the HoloLens for regular consumers but plans to keep pushing it for military use. Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I was excited about the potential for AR tech to grow in everyday life, but now it seems like they’re shifting focus entirely. Is this a sign that AR isn’t ready for mainstream adoption, or are they just chasing the bigger paycheck with military contracts? Kinda bummed, to be honest. What do you guys think—is this a step back for AR?

This feels like a step backward for AR innovation. If the focus is all military, we might miss out on the creativity that comes with consumer-driven tech.

I think the shift in focus speaks to the larger issue of AR just not being ready for the mass market. Microsoft probably realized that the cost of making this affordable and practical for consumers wasn’t going to pay off. The military, on the other hand, has both the budget and need for this tech. Still, it’s a shame for those of us who saw the potential for AR in everyday applications. Hopefully, this doesn’t kill consumer interest in AR entirely. Maybe once the tech advances, we’ll see it make a comeback in the mainstream. Fingers crossed.
