PC not recognizing my HDD

I plugged my external hard drive into my PC to back up some files, but nothing happens. The drive's light comes on, but my computer doesn’t recognize it at all. I've tried different USB ports and cables, but it’s the same result every time. I have important data on that drive that I need to access.

Have you checked if your USB drivers are up to date? Sometimes an outdated driver can cause issues with recognizing external devices. try going to device manager and updating the drivers for your USB ports.

you've already tried different ports and cables, but it’s worth mentioning again. sometimes, even if it seems like you've tried them all, there might be one port that works better or a cable that you haven’t tested yet.

can you try plugging the hard drive into another computer? this will help you figure out if the problem is with the drive or your pc. if it works on another machine, you know your pc is the issue.
